Chief Thinking Officer

I’ve had a lot of role titles in my professional design career.

My first one was CX strategist. I had no idea what that meant but I loved the company so I said yes. Since then I’ve been an Innovation Consultant, Product Strategist, Service Designer, Strategic Designer, a CX Designer, and Legal Designer.

But regardless of the title, what I end up doing is always the same. Working closely with smart people, helping them see things from new angles and think about different ways to solve a problem.

From the feedback I’ve received across these roles, it sounds like this isn’t that common.

I reckon the skill comes from my 10 years as a stand-up comedian - analysing ideas and issues from every angle to find the funny, interesting bits. I spent A LOT of time in my own head in that decade, it seems now my job is simply getting it out of my head and into the world.

Anyone can think about things from different angles, I probably just do it a bit faster.

Next job title I’m looking for is Chief Thinking Officer. Might be the first one that actually makes sense.
