“As Compassion passes from one person to another, it amplifies.”

- Johan Hari

THE compassion project

A few years ago I was living in an anonymous apartment block, getting full-but-silent public transport to work and reading about Australia’s innovative new strategies to turn away refugees.

I felt pretty bummed out about the whole situation. Why weren’t we connecting? Why couldn’t we reach across the divide and say g’day? Why couldn’t we find some room in our hearts for people having a seriously shit time?

I saw the superb and articulate Johan Hari describe compassion as something that amplifies. One person shows it to another, and the next person pays it forward with dividends.

In the connected system of our society, everyone is connected to everyone else in one way or another. If we can introduce compassion on a micro level, we can see a macro impact on the system as a whole.

So that’s what this is. Little things I’ve been done to help create a more caring, more compassionate society.

If you’ve got any suggestions or experiences yourself, I’m all ears.
